Handling Light

The brief for this project was to design and manufacture a handle for the kitchen which would illuminate at night producing an aesthetic feature within the environment. This built on the previous kitchen handle product aiming to incorporate technology and provide more functionality within an already functional product.

The final design of the product engaged a wing profile providing a simple yet sleek contemporary overal apperance. A thin piece of luminescent acrylic is sandwiched between the two halves allowing light from 3 blue L.E.D's to pass through the handle. All of the circuitry is contained within the handle itself and the circuit is activated via a a light dependant resistor when light levels fall below a calibrated value.
