Laptop Cooling
These images show one of the final year projects and this brief was simply to produce an original product using Aluminium Extrusion as a production method. This had to be validated by reasons of why Aluminium would be better than other materials for the product.
9 Initial concept sketches were drawn and then the final product was selected from these via a design weighted matrices. The final product outcome as shown in the final render, is called "Cool Case" and had dual functionallity as a product. The product could carry a laptop which would be protected on the inside by memory foam. The hard Aluminium outer shell would then protect the laptop from any impacts or from being dropped. Due to the ribs within the outer case, the metal would bend if dropped and absorb some of the impact rather than transferring it through the case.
The second functionality was that when a user uses the laptop, the laptop is placed on the surface of the case. The cooling fins on the exterior of the case then act as a heat sink, due to the properties of Aluminium. This in turn helps keep the laptop cool and therefore improves overall efficiency.
